I have recently came across a huge collection of approximately 6000 plus eyeglass frames from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. This collection span five decades at least. I found post marks as early as 1949 and as late as 1976. Because of the environment these were kept in many got damp and literally crumbled in my hand. But many came out perfect. These glasses come from USA, Italy, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, British Hong Kong, Korea and the list goes on. They are made of GOLD from 10kt to 24kt, sterling silver, iridium, bronze, platinum, acetate and the list goes on. We have the true originals off the store counter vintage eyeglass frames. We have the glasses that were made popular by stars such as James Dean and Buddy Holly. I have horn rim, keyhole, double bridge, single bridge, thick thin and the list goes on. There will be the eyeglasses in this collection that will be ones matching the exact style to the ones James Dean actually pulled off the eyeglass rack and wore in the movies before they had James Dean on the frames. This collection has a thousand different colors and styles. There is colors I never imagined and styles I never seen in the movies and I thought I’ve seen them all. I truly believe this optometrist had become a collector of eyeglass frames early on. In this collection was used eyeglasses from all over the world in eyeglass cases with names of people who had them. The family had stated they were told stories of how he bought NOS (NEW OLD STOCK) inventory starting out. What it comes down to is I have a collection of eyeglass frames NOS for the most part that is a LIFETIME collection of 50 years. Who knows the eyeglass frames could span 100 years. Temple piece reads style # 6750-404 size 48×23 temples are 5 1/2 and they have seven barrel hinges on them with gold accents on the corners. The frames have a slight twist on the which would be corrected by the optometrist setting the lenses. These are new old stock and have never been worn. They have some discoloring on the hinges.
