Antique Hard Bridge Pince-Nez Oval Eye Glasses and Original Case estimated 1890s. These amazing little spectacles are genuine and in fantastic condition. The “pinch” mechanism works perfectly with even tension and a lot of spring life left, which is quite surprising given that they are over 120 years old! The word “HARDY” is stamped inside the bridge with a small insignia. Due to the smaller bridge size and lenses, it is estimated that these were worn by a Victorian lady. They do have a minimal prescription, possibly for reading or minor astigmatism. The hair pick or pin that would have secured them for wear is missing with only the chain remaining – which would explain the slight chip in the left lens-edge, near the bottom. It is barely noticeable and does not affect visibility at all. Only the lenses have been cleaned as they were quite dusty from storage. The original lining is in tact, although it has detached from the inside of the case due to the age of the glue. It is estimated that it was originally a black velvet that has since faded with the passing years. The spring mechanism for the case is quite effective and snaps shut with vigor. There is external wear along the spine of the case, which is expected for the age, but no damage or dents. This is an exquisite item for any Victorian collection!
